Sod laid on badly shaped ground washes out and dies in patches, because the work underneath was skipped.
A lawn only looks as good as the ground under it. Jake grades the yard first, then lays the sod and edges the beds with fresh straw and plants, so the whole yard looks done instead of one green patch in the dirt.

Sod and planting questions
Every question here is one somebody actually asked on a forum or an inspection site, and each answer links to where it was asked.
Do you grade before laying sod?
Yes. Grading is one of Jake's services and it comes first, so the sod goes down on ground that's shaped to drain instead of on bumps and low spots.
Source: facebook.comCan you work around things in the yard, like a trampoline?
Yes. One of the photos on this page is an in-ground trampoline set into new sod, so the lawn gets laid around what you already have or want to add.
Source: facebook.comCan you add irrigation with the new sod?
Yes. Irrigation is one of Jake's services, so the sprinklers can go in with the sod and the new lawn gets watered from the start.
